Experience Winterlake Lodge
We have expanded our operations to include the Winter Lake Lodge
The strategic location of Winterlake Lodge allows the TML operation to push further north into the Alaska Tordrillo range as well as into the Neacolas. Guests can also ski from Denali to Lake Clark National Parks. This massive range is one of the most remote areas in the world for heli skiing.
Be the First. Prepare for Uncharted Descents
From this location, guides and guests can launch into familiar and classic Tordrillo Mountain Lodge terrain or turn their sights west or north and venture deeper into newly explored terrain. The addition of the Winterlake Lodge base allows guests to explore uncharted descents while having the security and backbone of an operation with 20 years of experience in the Tordrillos. It encompasses over 100 miles of wilderness with 4 helicopters for access.
Accommodations, Activities and Amenities
Guest cabins are configured in unique ways but all have the following amenities: private baths with showers, a small living or sitting room, dresser, desk with chairs, rocking chairs, luggage rack, couch, robes, drinking water dispenser and a private deck with a view. Small ceramic French-style heaters offer steady heat to most of our guest cabins and the main lodge is still heated by wood in our large, beautiful cast iron woodstoves.
Winterlake Lodge is situated in between the magnificent Tordrillo Mountain Range and the towering peaks of the Alaska Range on a peaceful lake that is home to loons, swans, bears, moose and arctic grayling. The main lodge, where guests socialize and dine, sits near the middle of the property. There is a comfortable main room for relaxing by the fire and viewing the lake from our large picture windows, a dining area and large kitchen for the preparation of our award-winning Alaskan regional cuisine.
In addition, the main lodge has:
- A spacious bar where we offer wine tastings and evening appetizers.
- A wellness room, where our wellness instructor offers twice daily yoga, meditation and stretching classes.
- A hot tub on the deck with a view of the Tordrillo Mountains in the summer and northern lights in winter.
- A game area with Ping-Pong and darts.
Activities & Amenities
Winterlake Lodge offers sled-dog tours and instructions on driving your own dog team. Join Carl and Kirsten at the lodge for an exhilarating 4-day dog mushing school program. We also cross-country ski, snowshoe the backcountry surrounding the lodge, and take exploratory trips down the Iditarod Trail. Or just sit by the fire with a good book and a warm cup of cocoa.
We are excited to feature our Alaska lodge cuisine. Adventure is found in the wild and vast beauty of the natural world we are surrounded by but it’s also found each evening at our dinner tables. We source organic, natural and local Alaska ingredients, often from our own gardens or foraged from nearby wild places.
We select curated “menus of the day” pairing them with wines from favorite vineyards. We accommodate special requests, offer children’s menus, and we are always flexible in understanding guest preferences.
We have a commercial walk-in refrigerator that has replaced our root cellar for storage of our summer veggies. In the winter, the refrigerator actually insulates from the cold. A big work table divides the room. People can pass in and out as they please but they can’t go beyond the table. We are adding in a new pastry area of the kitchen for Mandy, a private employee dining room and a dishwashing room.
Winterlake Lodge is located 198 trail miles northwest of Anchorage, Alaska, along Alaska’s Historic Iditarod Trail. The lodge sits on 15 acres, overlooking a finger-shaped 2-mile lake where we land by float plane in the summer and ski plane in the winter.
