2016 Winter Session | Wes Wylie

Kings and Corn is currently in full swing, but our thoughts never stray too far from winter. In this post Tordrillo Mountain Lodge guide, Wes Wylie, takes a look back at the 2016 Winter session, giving you the scoop on what made it memorable and fun for him. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So, if you don’t believe what he says, just take a look at his photos.

“It’s hard to put into words how great the 2016 season was at Tordrillo Mountain Lodge, especially after coming off one of the best all-time powder seasons in recent memory in 2015. But this past winter was all-time! While most of Alaska was basking in unseasonably warm temperatures, the Tordrillo Mountains were stacking up massive storm totals of deep, dry and undisturbed fresh powder. As a consequence we were able to explore new terrain and tee off on new lines that left our guests with powder grins from ear to ear.

As for my personal highlight of the season, it was definitely getting the chance to ski and spend time with Anselme Baud, the father of extreme skiing from Chamonix. At age 78 he tabled his traditional alpine ski setup for a pair of  K2 Pontoons and ripped huge, deep Alaska lines and spines like a true, veteran pro. And then, like the true gentleman that he is, gave a huge thumbs up to the ever stellar Tordrillo Mountain Lodge staff for delivering an experience like no other he had ever experienced.

In closing, a big thank you to our rock star team at Tordrillo Mountain Lodge for again delivering an unparalleled experience. And to our loyal, returning guests, our new  first time clients, and of course Ullr for making 2016 one for the record books. Bring on 2017!”
